A brutally shrewd satire that pities its characters and lambasts the endlessly contradictory social and cultural rituals that flourish in America. There are so many moments in this film where the jokes cut so damn deep. The laughs carry more than a hint of uncomfortable bite and they often surprise. Just look at that last shot for a prime example. It’s a bold gut-punch of a statement in a film that’s full of them. Satirizing beauty pageants seems like an…

It's almost unbelievable that so gentle a satire can land with such an emotionally powerful wallop (like an iron glove cast in velvet, to rearrange a quote from Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill, Kill). It's a cumulative effect that is patiently built, scene by scene, across a wide cast of characters. The ambition seems to be nothing short of deconstructing the "American Dream" by detailing how its pursuit has emotionally crippled an entire small town and negatively affected the values of…

So it turns out the characters in a Harmony Korine film have busted out into the real world and someone has made a documentary about them. In following Soundcloud rappers who move out to a Colorado desert to grow/smoke weed, record music, and attempt some half-assed version of a "sustainable village," Crestone doesn't choose a lane between the practical and the impressionistic, so it's a bit of a mishmash. But there are some great moments (and big laughs) throughout, and the final shot is a doozy.

This comedy of losers (another one!) is much more enjoyable than I thought at first: HEAVY TRIP is made with love, care and consideration. Great characters, good ideas, great music (even if you're not a Metalhead (like me)) and heaps of dry humour - and although it's pretty formulaic aswell, no doubt, it doesn't fail to entertain.

Well, the events along the "roadtrip to Norway" are much too forced for my taste, but that's only a minor point of criticism of this surprisingly well done debut feature film.

This witty and enthralling Finnish heavy metal drama from he duo directing team of Jukka Vidgren and Juuso Laatio depicts what happens when a newly formed death metal band that names itself Impaled Rektum goes through a major road to traveling to a major heavy metal festival concert with all of the trial and tribulations that they go through that are as tragic and serious as they are comedic and touching in the way they pursue their dream in attending…

Insane editing. Scenes randomly end. Insane dad. Can't hear his son yelling in the cellar but can hear a dude yelling from across his yard. No better way to bond with you son than punching each other in the face. Crows carrying around fingers. Double barrel shotgun that shoots 10+ rounds with no reloading. Bossy dad. Overacting dad. Dad that ignores warnings but is scared at the same time. Macho Dad Mance Cashen. Puddles of goop. Don't go near them…

IT Dreams May Come

Ohio State University produced regional wonder swings between wildly pretentious and just plain wild. At one point someone says, "Your non-existent brother was standing right there!"

I love this movie. Perfectly weird and psychedelic while being low budget and endearing in the best of ways. Lots of cool dream sequences and surreal imagery. Plus there's a pretty cool creature!

Dreams and reality become one as a violent creature stalks a young man. First he is tormented by the creature in his dreams. But when horrible things begin to happen in his everyday life he suspects the creature to be all too real.

The acting and overall…
