You can tell that the film is honest and sincere because it tried to be relatable by accurately depicting the awkward and banal encounters of teenage life, days in junior high, and of the American dream. However, films like this are frustratingly sad because it's as problematic as it is insightful, it only surrenders without just resolution. This is the second Solondz film I have watched and it just keeps on getting darker and borderline fucked up :/ are 90s comedy film directors okay???
Everything is beautifully shot, dressed with outstanding tones which just set the mood perfectly. One of my favorite scenes was when they’re just playing records alternately through the phone.
