why do the lonely island boys have a better understanding of how to make a moving and unique film than every other production team in hollywood
(I don't consider anything in here a "spoiler" per se because it's not a twisty or very-plot-driven film, but I do talk about some of the stuff that happens in the second act of the movie, if you're real wary.)
I think this might be my favorite movie of the year so far.
I'm glad I had known that the tone of the movie wasn't going to be wacky or Good Neighbor-y going into the film, because I think that would've colored my expectations differently. It's none of that, although Mooney's character has the delivery and tone that any of his Good Neighbor characters would, which makes even his most sincere lines funny but never at the sacrifice of his…
Brigsby Bear is such a confusing thing that exists. Not the storyline, that could not be simpler, just the actual purpose of this film, the tone of this film, the voice of this film, I mean what is the point?
It’s something that, on it’s surface, comes off as a passion project, as something that was so carefully thought out and had a lot of heart put into it. But once you actually watch you realize there isn’t an ounce of personality in it’s filmmaking. While enjoyable and sorta funny in the moment, Brigsby Bear is the most boring high you’ll ever have.
the concept could easily fall apart with any other director and any other cast, but it has such a huge, powerful heart at its center and the performances are so unbelievably good that it just works. it would be so simple to make james the butt of every joke because of his social awkwardness and inexperience, but instead the character is treated with the sympathy and compassion he deserves. i'm so happy i watched this, i kept awww'ing out loud and i almost cried at one point. if you have your doubts about seeing this because it doesn't sound like something you'd enjoy, ignore them. if you love movies & the power they have to affect our lives, you'll love this.
I don't think this has ever happened to me, but ten minutes after watching Brisgby Bear and thinking back on how lovely it was, I burst into uncontrollable tears on my walk home. Handily one of the most complex and life affirming films of the year and proof that sometimes that the world is not a cold, dead place. It's also dope as shit.
another mystery for the books: why do i love greg kinnear so much??
until that is solved, though - let's have some gratitude for Brigsby Bear. i'm sure i'm not the first one to think of both The Room and Room while watching this film. Brigsby Bear is reminiscent of both, although significantly more lighthearted, more warm, more sweet. Kyle Mooney gives one of the most heartwarming and empathetic performances of the year. i think what's most special about this movie is it doesn't just feel like an ode to television & film. although there is so much passion directed towards the power of art, there's also a certain reverence and acknowledgement of what creating art gives us, too. community in…
I kinda flipped for this. What’s there not to like about a movie that’s essentially about how the whole point ofnmovoes is making movies with friends. And the craft across all departments was so high! Kudos to everyone involved.
Let first me say, this is the first Lonely Island film I have watched in it’s entirety. After the first five minutes, I was like, “oh my, what am I watching?” After it was over, it was more like, “oh my, what did I just watch...and why did I like it so much?!” Brigsby Bear is another example of a good film that you should go into knowing as little as possible about it. Just fully immerse yourself in it and let it wash all over you. I almost feel as if I have spoiled it for you already.
Once again I don’t really want to offer up a critique of any of the plot points. I honestly think it…
I’m obsessed with movies that invent fictional shows/movies/books to populate their world. I think it’s such a fun, unique storytelling device that requires an immense amount of creativity, but in a way that opens up that creativity to the viewer. It invites you in to help make that secondary world with them. I think it’s a blast! If and when I write things, I want to have fictional pop culture in them!
This has such a genuine affection for the feeling of getting together with your pals and making something. Idk how much the movie actually “works” or anything. It really made me miss my friends though. And I like how it consistently avoids cynicism in favor of tenderness, acceptance,…
esse filme aqueceu meu coração, secou minhas inseguranças e me deu vontade de viver a vida mais bonita que eu posso viver
tudo isso com um teletubbies furry bizarro
Wonderful indie homage to the beauty of movies, very funny in a weird sort of way
Sometimes a film will come along that’ll reach to your very core, that’s what Brigsby Bear was for me tonight. I have a hard time believing I gave up the opportunity to watch this on the big screen in favor of a random ass movie I have already forgotten about. ‘Brigsby Bear’ was truly special, and I feel ashamed in myself that I didn’t watch it when it first came out despite hearing all of the buzz.
2017 was such a consistent and stellar year though for film - it’s my only year in the 21st century to have 8 films have a perfect 10/10. With such great films such as ‘The Florida Project’, ‘Blade Runner 2049’, ‘Good Time’, ‘Call…
What a film, what a story, see I have a lot to talk about, starting off with the fish out of water, experiencing new things and grasping new inspirations is a major thing in this film, and the friendships behind the scenes, the filmmaking aspect itself made me very happy, its truly something when others gain intrest and happiness from experiencing what you love, every scene just stretched a smile across my face, the premire scene is amazing, the nervous sick feeling of if they will like it or not, and the looks on peoples faces, the smiles and the calpping, I dread my first premire, but I cant wait for it none the less, Brigsby Bear was an amazing…
