Charley’s review published on Letterboxd:
Kind of disappointing after how great The Hustler is. Reliably extremely fun and engaging style and flare from 80s Scorsese but there really is just not enough story here, or enough bite to feel like a worthy successor to the original. It feels a bit pointless in the end. It's an unsubtle story done very subtly, almost too subtly for an actor like Tom Cruise to be able to half-carry the whole thing, I think it would have been much more effective with someone who was more method to match with Newman's incredible performance. It's a subtly dark story that fails to get across its edge, leaving it enjoyable but mostly forgettable.
